VTU mandates document verification for 1st year engineering admissions to safeguard the reputation and standards of the colleges and the University. The Visvesvaraya Technological University's circular comes in the background of recent fraudulent activities. VTU had rejected the admission of 51 students over fake certificates issued in the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) name.

 

Fraud Detection by VTU Officials

The officials said that when they tried to scan the QR code printed on the 12th marks card, it led to a fake NIOS website. That is when they detected that it was a fake certificate.

 

Measures taken by VTU

As a proactive measure, the VTU officials have issued a notice to the colleges to authenticate all the documents submitted by the students at the time of admission to the 1st year engineering course. It is a welcome move taken by the University that will safeguard the reputation of the college and the University and ensure that only qualified students get admission to colleges.

 

Colleges to check authenticity of the documents

1.Even after the equivalence of 10+ boards is obtained, the colleges will scrutinize the documents submitted during admission to verify the authenticity.

2.If anything is suspicious, the colleges will contact the respective issuing authorities , schools  or examination boards to verify the genuineness of the documents

3. No students shall be sent to the University for verification of genuineness documents.

4. If the University observes any discripency at any stage, the University will take necessary disciplinary action against the college and the student.
