Eligibility Criteria/ Admission Requirements to do your MBA in Canada as an International Student

  • A decent GMAT score: GMAT/GRE score is close to mandatory for MBA in Canada. The university or B-School may relax the GMAT/ GRE score for students with excellent records and experience. GMAT score is also not necessary if (i) you have a good GPA in your Bachelors, (ii) you have work experience of more than three years, and (iii) you have a CV/Resume that speaks for you. The CV should consist of proof of internships, work experience certificates, letters of recommendation from your network, etc.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any area of discipline from a reputed university: Since the Undergraduate degree should be of 4 years while most of our universities offer only 3-year courses, you may need to do a Masters in the meanwhile. Some universities do not accept a one-year completion of a Master’s either.
  • IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE score: Mandatory to get admission at most biz schools. Some institutions, such as the University of Toronto, would accept CAE (now known as C1 Advanced) scores as well.
  • A valid Student VISA

Applying and Preparing for GMAT

The seven-decade-old Graduate Management Admission Test or GMAT is the preferred entrance exam over the Graduate Record Examinations or GRE both by students and universities. The 50 topics you’ll need to cover for the GMAT session are divided into four broad sections - Quantitative Reasoning (31 questions in 62 minutes), Verbal Reasoning (36 questions in 65 minutes), Integrated Reasoning (30 minutes for 12 questions), and Analytical Writing Assessment (for which you do an essay in half an hour). The GMAC also offers two optional ten minute-breaks during GMAT. Since the exam involves a lot of math and geometry, you can stress more on the topics to have the upper hand. Educational behemoths such as Kaplan provide textbooks and workbooks for all 4 of the sections. You may choose the ones that suit you the best. You may attend the GMAT up to five times a year but no more than eight times total. Also, you must ensure that there is 16 days gap between your attempts. There are standardized test centres spread across 114 countries at the time for GMAT evaluation. Once you have completed your undergraduate eligibility for MBA in Canada, you may apply for GMAT. Just ensure that you are 18 years or 13 years old and have a letter of consent from your guardian to give the exam. The cost of registration for GMAT in India is around $250, which is almost INR 18,300.

Applying and Preparing for TOEFL

TOEFL Exam Format is as follows:

Task Description Approximate time
Reading 3-4 passages, each containing 10 questions 54-72 minutes
Listening 5-7 passages, each containing 5–6 questions 41-57 minutes
Break Mandatory break 10 minutes
Speaking 4 tasks 17 minutes
Writing 2 tasks 50 minutes

To attend the exam, you must be at least 18 years old. Candidates of at least 15 years of age may attend the exam after being accompanied to the hall by a parent or guardian to complete the formalities. You may need to pay $185 (around INR 14000) to get registered. You can also do the IELTS or PTE instead of TOEFL, although TOEFL is of broader acceptance.

Tuition Fees/ Cost of MBA in Canada

Average tuition costs 30000-31000. It can range from 20000 to well above 60000. You can work if you have a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) permit. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) allows international students to work and earn their livelihood.

Firms may hire you based on the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) to fill labour and skill shortages.

Canada is known best for its job opportunities, flexibility of hours, and pays. The country’s educational institutions, including the University campuses, also hold out opportunities in the form of both On-Campus and Off-Campus jobs to support yourself. For an on-campus job, you can either work for the institution itself or a firm within or associated with the campus. What more could you ask for?

While most Off-campus jobs would require a permit, On-Campus jobs are possible without the hassles of getting one.

Placements

Most of the institutions mentioned above conduct campus placements by the end of your last semester. You need only prepare well while having good academic records. The country is also known the best for its citizens that exhibit the best of politesse and gentility. So, one can expect that once you are on your way, you may not have much trouble finding help.

We wish you the best while you cut nimbus after nimbus into the corporate skies with one wing of technological knowledge and managerial skills.
