FOSS Project Competition
Visvesvaraya Technological University has taken the initiative of promoting the use of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) through various activities and is conducting a FOSS Project Competition for final year B.E/B.Tech students.
By the direction of the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, FOSS group of VTU is inviting FOSS Project proposals from final Year B.E/B.Tech students. Each college is required to send one project proposal meeting the requirements attached herewith.
Among the project proposals received, 20 deserving projects will be selected and be given financial assistance of Rs.5,000/- per project.
Principals of constituent and affiliated colleges are requested to identify one such project from their respective colleges and forward the same as per the details in this circular. The hard and soft copies should reach on or before 31st March 2020. The soft copies of the project proposals should be e-mailed to foss@vtu.ac.in

The following requirements must he met by the project forwarded for Consideration
1.Project must be carried out by students for their VIII Semester B.E project
2.Project must predominantly use Free and open Source Software (FOSS) and/or open source hardware as a prominent component of the project. Application must clearly state the name of the software and free and open source software license under which the software being used is licensed.
3.All the software developed as part of project along with the documentation must also be made available under a free and open source license. Source code and documentation should be accessible to users on public repositories such as Github. URL to access the source code and documentation must be provided
4.A project can belong to any of the following categories
i.Agriculture
ii.Healthcare
iii.Energy
iv.Safety and security
v.Assistive Technologies vi.Education vii.Others
5.The Application for competition must consist of a brief report with the following contents
i.Title
ii.Category
iii.The Free and Open Source software and/or Open Hardware FOSS being used (in the project)
iv.License under which the source code developed as part of the project is being distributed
v.URL(Github/Gitlab repository etc.) where source developed during the project is available
vi.Objectives
vii.Technology being used
viii.Cost of the project ix.Benefits and Outcomes of project
x.Scope for future improvement
xi.Conclusion
