Module-4 Spur Gears & Gear Trains 10 hours

Spur Gears: Gear terminology, law of gearing, path of contact, arc of contact, contact ratio ofspur gear. Interference in involute gears, methods of avoiding interference, back lash, conditionfor minimum number of teeth to avoid interference, expressions for arc of contact and path ofcontact.

Gear Trains: Simple gear trains, compound gear trains. Epicyclic gear trains:aAlgebraic andtabular methods of finding velocity ratio of epicyclic gear trains, torque calculation in epicyclicgear trains.

Cams: Types of cams, types of followers. displacement, velocity and acceleration curves foruniform velocity, Simple Harmonic Motion, Uniform Acceleration Retradation, Cycloidalmotion. Cam profiles: disc cam with reciprocating / oscillating follower having knife-edge, rollerand flat-face follower inline and offset.
